What the tool returned in our test
On November 8, 2026, we submitted a known public Reel as a control, a profile-shaped link, and a made-up Reel ID. We kept the Reel-shaped input separate from the profile input so we could see whether the failure happened before or after the tool tried to retrieve media.
| Input | HTTP | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Public Reel control | 200 | 600 characters in 7.237 seconds |
| Profile-shaped link | 422 | This URL is not an Instagram Reel or video post. |
| Made-up Reel ID | 422 | Instagram did not provide a video for this link. The post may be private, unavailable, or blocked. |
What each message tells you
Both unsuccessful requests returned HTTP 422, but the messages identify different stages. The profile-shaped input failed the link check before a video request. The made-up ID passed the link check, but the response from Instagram did not provide a video URL. In that case the speech model had no media to transcribe.
The retrieval message lists possible reasons. The made-up ID produced it without any evidence of a private account. If you see the same message on a real Reel, you can tell which stage failed, but the message alone cannot tell you whether the Reel is private, removed, or inaccessible to the tool.
What to try next
For a profile link, open the individual Reel and copy its link from the share menu. For a retrieval error, check whether the Reel opens while signed out, then try a different public Reel using the box above. If the second Reel works, you have a working comparison for that moment. If both fail, keep the exact error message before retrying later.
